GMO ANALYSİS
GMO analysis is a scientific test used to determine whether ingredients used in cosmetic products contain genetically modified organisms (GMOs). Proving that a product is GMO-free becomes critical in formulations using plant-based raw materials, especially if ingredients such as soy, corn, or cottonseed oil are susceptible to genetic manipulation. As consumer awareness increases, demand for GMO-free cosmetic products is also rapidly increasing. Therefore, GMO analysis is an important tool for brands to document their transparency, reliability, and ethical production principles. Furthermore, many countries have mandated the analysis, particularly for products marketed as "GMO-free."
GMO analyses performed at Cosming Laboratories are performed to determine the presence or absence of genetically modified components in all samples containing genetic material. These analyses are performed using the globally proven Real-Time PCR (qPCR) method. During testing, screening is performed by targeting genetic sequences specific to GMOs. The commonly used Promoter 35S, Terminator NOS, and Promoter FMV regions are the key sequences analyzed to detect the presence of GMOs. This analysis is performed using a combination of two specialized PCR systems, yielding highly sensitive and accurate results.
